Meet the Teacher
Melissa Willis, a Wisconsin native, has enjoyed teaching both piano and flute to students of all ages and abilities for the last seventeen years. She holds a B.A. degree in Music Performance from Luther College, in Decorah, Iowa and has also completed Masters coursework in Flute and Piano Pedagogy at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Melissa has maintained several successful teaching studios in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Illinois and Iowa. Her students have received superior ratings in various music festivals and have been represented in several prominent honors ensembles throughout the Midwest and Tennessee. In addition, Melissa has served as adjunct faculty for Belmont University and Freewill Bible Baptist College. She also has spent her summers on the faculty for the Shell Lakes Arts Center, the Northland Youth Music Program and the Chippewa Valley Flute Camp. Melissa currently performs with the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra, in Northwest Wisconsin and is a member of the Music Teacher’s National Association, the National Federation of Music Clubs and the National Flute Association.
Melissa recently relocated to her husband’s hometown of Indianapolis from Iowa City, Iowa. During her four years in Iowa City, Melissa established a thriving piano and flute studio of 50 students, specializing in piano instruction for young beginners aged 4 to 6, traditional-aged beginners, aged 7-9, adult beginners, as well as many transfer students of all levels. She also has the unique ability, creativity and patience to provide the student who claims they want to “quit piano” with a renewed enjoyment in music and learning the piano.
